With the help of JPEG Imager, I took a 500KB image and I shrunk it down to 132KB and the best thing was that the quality of the image remained the same. It looks the same, but it takes up less space. That, alongside image editing capabilities, is the sort of functionality you can expect to get from JPEG Imager, an image optimization tool provided by V-Methods Software.

You will find the executable you need to run in order to install JPEG Imager inside a 2.3MB archive. With the help of a simple setup wizard, you will be able to install JPEG Imager on a PC powered by Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.

JPEG Imager features a dual-pane interface: on the left you have the source image, on the right you have the compressed image. On both sides of the application’s interface there are shortcuts for various functions. At the top there’s a File menu while at the bottom there’s a Quality slider.

As you would expect from an application called JPEG Imager, support for JPEG images is provided. It must be said that the application also supports PNG and GIF files. So if you have JPEG, PNG or GIF images and you want to crop, resize, or compress, then load them into the JPEG Imager.

I mentioned above that with JPEG Imager I shrunk a 500KB image down to 132KB. I have to add that I did this without playing with the settings, just by loading the JPEG image and hitting the Compress button. If you take the time to play with the settings, you can shrink an image’s size even more. Do note though that you will be giving up quality in favor of size. So play around until you find the best quality to size ratio.

Please note that JPEG Imager is only free to try. For an evaluation period of 30 days you can use the application for free and put its functionality to the test.

Save disk space by compressing image files. You can easily do that and more with the JPEG Imager application.

Pros

Installing JPEG Imager on a Windows PC will take very little time. The application features a dual pane interface that lets you see how a compressed image will look like. With JPEG Imager, you can also resize, crop, adjust the color, reduce noise, add filters, and add a text overlay on pictures. Built-in thumbnail generator and batch processor.

Cons

Free to use for 30 days.
